Just because summer is wrapping up doesn’t mean that anything in Austin is slowing down – September is looking to be a jam-packed month with plenty of amazing events to check out.
Whether you’re looking to hit up a film festival, soak in the upcoming fall vibes or try a new drink, we’ve got your plans sorted with some of the best September Austin happenings.
1. Catch a few films at Fantastic Fest

Fantastic Fest is the largest genre film festival in the US – every year, Alamo Drafthouse hosts a gathering of fans and industry professionals for a week-long celebration of film. This year, from September 18th to 25th, expect Fantastic Fest’s biggest week yet for its 20th anniversary edition. Tickets are now on sale, with different packages available to snap up.
2. Celebrate everyone’s favorite caffeinated cocktail with an espresso martini bar crawl

Espresso Martini Fest is back for another year thanks to Mr Black – and this year, even more of Austin’s hottest bars are taking part.
From September 29 to October 5, you can discover new interpretations of this iconic cocktail with each bar bringing something different to the festival. Grab your friends and explore participating venues in your city for a celebration of coffee reborn for the night.
3. Attend the annual Pecan Street Festival

The Pecan Street Festival is one of the nation’s longest-running arts/crafts and music festivals, taking place twice a year over two weekends in spring and fall. This fall, the festival takes place on September 13 and 14 at the Hill Country Galleria. Admission to the festival is free and they really have something for everyone – whether you’re looking to buy some art, catch some live music or eat some delicious food. Don’t forget about the whole block of carnival rides!
4. Visit a museum (or two) for free on Austin Museum Day

Every year since 1988, Austin Museum Day welcomes visitors to museums across the city for free – with special programs and activities taking place in honor of the day. This year, the 28th annual Austin Museum Day takes place on September 21 and more than 30 museums are taking part. In addition to free entry and special exhibitions, there are also prizes to be won and scavenger hunts to take part in.
5. Support local artists at HAAM Day

We love any excuse to catch some live music and HAAM Day gives us a very good reason to get involved. Taking place on September 23 this year, the one-day music festival features free performances all around the city – not just at music venues, but at grocery stores, parks, rooftops and more. It is also the biggest fundraising event of the year for the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians. The group provides access to affordable healthcare for Austin’s musicians, as well as improving their health and wellness outcomes.
